November 2024 | Climate Events across Colorado
Monthly climate events, jobs, and news in the Colorado front range
There’s a lot going on in Colorado, and it shouldn’t be a secret! It’s not the biggest tech scene, but Colorado’s unique mix of research, policy, companies, mountains, and people work together to make it a major climate hub. This newsletter is an independent roundup of community-submitted climate events in the Colorado Front Range area and is not associated with any specific company or group.
We are celebrating this month. And I don’t just mean Thanksgiving.
Colorado Climatetech reached 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ followers in our first year! That’s all thanks to you dear reader. You are the community. Every time I meet someone at an event who heard about it from this newsletter, it fuels the next issue. Thank you to all who have followed, attended events, and spread the word.
To celebrate, we turn our 🔦 Spotlight inward to

Feeling our way to change: Emotional Pathways through the Climate Emergency
🕔 WHEN: Monday, November 18, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
📍WHERE: Marquez Hall, Golden, CO
Our emotionality features prominently in our navigation of the mounting impacts of climate change, and in our collective attempts to avert further climate catastrophe. Better understanding of our emotionality and its role in individual behavior, collective action, and ultimately in social change can offer important insights to inform our personal and collective responses to the climate emergency. In this talk, we will take a deep dive into emotionality, to see if we can get a better handle on just what those pathways from emotions to social change look like, and how an emotionality lens can be applied to a critical, constructive analysis of our prospects for confronting the climate emergency in manners that minimize the damage, and perhaps even enhance our prospects for meaningful collective living.

Decarbonization: Overview of technologies that offer hope for humankind
🕔 WHEN: Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
📍WHERE: The Alliance Center, Denver, CO
For several decades, the accepted approach for mitigating climate change has been focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. What we need to do, climate activists claim, is to avoid using energy where we can, use existing energy more efficiently, and convert energy sources from fossil fuels to renewables. Although these conservation and technical solutions are available, for a cost, they are not being implemented nearly fast enough. Considering the potentially massive magnitude and scope of climate change, which is assuredly altering human life and the entire Earth in profound ways, it is worth taking a step back and looking at climate change with a broader lens. The science of climate change is reviewed, followed by a discussion about why current efforts to address climate change are insufficient. Featuring Jonathan Stickel, Ph.D., is a Director of R&D at Carbon America, a startup company developing and deploying carbon-capture technology.
